Course Map/Details

Trail Head & Layout:
The course begins at the corner of Colt Elementary. There is massive space for parking and set-up. Although the loop feels remote and secluded, you are 5 minutes from every hotel, H-E-B, and Walmart in town.
Camping:
Primitive only. No electricity. No running water. Plan accordingly.
RVs:
Fully allowed. Parking available in the lot and on surrounding streets.
A detailed map (attached) will show:
-
Start corral
-
Transition area
-
Parking layout
-
No-parking zones near the corral
Dogs:
Allowed on leashes in the transition area only.
Not allowed on the course.
Course Marking:
The course will be extremely well marked and very straightforward. You will have to intentionally try to get lost.
Portajohns:
Three high-quality units with handwashing stations located at the start of the loop. Porta Johns are on the course, so you can use them at the start of the loop, middle of the loop, or end of the loop, etc.
Please tell your crew not to crowd them during transition-heavy moments. (Final 15 min of loop, middle of the loop, start of the loop. Give me runners priority.)
Respect the School Grounds:
Colt Elementary graciously partners with us each year for our transition area.
Please leave your space exactly as you found it.
Aid Station
Backyard Races are designed to be self-sustained. Make sure to bring all the food and hydration you think you are going to need to run. For this event there will only be one aid station at the start finish and it will be "fully serviced". There will be no aid stations on course.
For this event at a "fully serviced" aid station, you will be able to find the following for fuel:
Cookies, PBJ sandwiches, Oranges, Bananas, Watermelons, Pickles, Pickle Juice, , Fruit Snacks, Pringles, Coke, Mt. Dew, Ginger Ale, Tailwind & Saltstick. We have found that these items will allow runners to properly fuel themselves to get through any ultra.
Disclaimer: We are a CUPLESS EVENT! For those new to the trail running world/etiquette, we like to treat our venues with respect and do not use plastic or styrofoam to serve out water. Please bring your own cup, water bottle, hydration vest, or other form of water containment so we can help maintain the clean environment we are permitted to use for this event.
Pacing
THERE ARE NO PACERS ALLOWED FOR THIS RACE
Volunteering
Come out and volunteer with us at Summit backyard ultra! Every race that you have ever participated in has had a crew of volunteers to make it possible. Without the support of volunteers, races wouldn't exist! Take this opportunity to give back to your running community and sign up to volunteer!
P.S. If and when you do decide to volunteer, there are some pretty cool swag and discounts available for future races!
